Here are some meals and restaurants I ate at during trips to Los Angeles! Read more below for notes and reviews as I don't recommend every spot as highly as the others!

Belcampo, Santa Monica
Beef tartare to start lunch here at Belcampo in Santa Monica – we had it with butter lettuce instead of toast. Scott had steak Frites for lunch, I had their grilled chicken sandwich without the roll, again on lettuce. Everything was delicious! Definitely recommend.

Bestia
Bestia DTLA is a hot spot in DTLA that is not to be missed! My entire meal was amazing, and I was able to enjoy it all grain-free without any trouble at all. I enjoyed some toast less pate, which I ate with a spoon, and the squid dish pictured below.
Oceana Beach Club: Santa Monica, California
ROOM SERVICE! Some hits and some misses with this not-cheap but an “we are on vacation and I order all the things I want to taste” order.
Here's what we got, clockwise from the top:
- truffle fries (not healthy at all, but yummy!)
- prawns (good!)
- lamb chops (great!)
- ahi tartare (excellent! I could LIVE on it)
- grilled octopus (hard to live up to our favorite from our Greece trip a couple of years ago)
- cabbage cooked in butter (we wish we hadn't ordered it because somehow we were expecting grilled veg and we both can't eat that much butter right now – acne!)
We agreed we would order the lamb and ahi again. I bet Scott would say the fries, too, but I wouldn't only to keep the temptation away from myself (he ate most of them anyway).
Not pictured: two double espressos, because we are still getting some work done on this relaxing vacation. When you love what you do, a little work while you play isn't painful or a chore, it's no big deal and even enjoyable when your view is of the ocean!
Hotel restaurant breakfast! For me: tomato, smoked salmon, poachies, steel cut oats with blueberries (plus more berries in that blue mug), and watermelon. For him: ham, smoked potatoes, eggs, bacon, and pineapple (not pictured).
Lunch poolside: (his) grass-fed burger on gluten-free toast with slaw, (mine) kale salad with shrimp and ahi tartare with cucumbers instead of chips. Iced tea to drink.
Rustic Canyon
Dinner at Rustic Canyon in Santa Monica was great! Scott had the pork chop and I had the flatiron steak – both were great. Their side of potatoes were ridiculously crispy and delicious. Everything was well seasoned. Very gluten-free/nut-free accommodating. Definitely recommend! Thanks to my friend Rona Barona for the recommendation (her brother is the chef/owner of Bestia featured below, so she knows good food!).

Tar and Roses
Light meal at Tar and Roses after a late room service lunch (pictured above). I had clams and the crudo dish made without the soy – both pictured here. The clams were good, VERY lemony, which was fine with me since I love lemon. The crudo needed more dressing – a drizzle of EVOO and a squeeze of lemon would have been good and I'm guessing the missing white soy would have helped. The fish was nice though. Scott's hangar steak was solid and well cooked but the veggies with it were meh. He also had Brussels sprouts that were just okay. Overall probably not our top recommendation in Santa Monica.

Tajrish
I also enjoyed a meal with my good friend, Mary, The Paleo Chef, at Tajrish in Marina Del Rey, CA. Tajrish has Persian Cuisine.

Whole Foods: El Segundo, California
While on the road, I try to find a nearby Whole Foods or health store to pick up some groceries to have in my hotel room.
While at Whole Foods, I put this breakfast bowl together which is a replication of the breakfast bowl I have been making for myself at home – it has been my favorite breakfast lately!
