Resolutions & Goal Setting

Since it is the last week of 2016, it's the perfect time to reflect and plan ahead for the new year. I can only hope that sharing my thoughts and ideas will help you set yourself up for success in 2017.

Now I know there are two kinds of people out there:
1 -Those who are completely put off by resolutions and don't set them,
and 2- those who see resolutions as something very natural with the start of a new calendar year.

I've been in both camps and I've come up with a couple methods and a downloadable PDF tool (coming soon!) that will suit everyone and help you set your priorities for goal setting šŸ™‚

Method #1: Pick a word, a phrase, or a sentence that you can come back to throughout the year and use this to help you make decisions and guide you through the year.

I originally picked a word that I hoped others who interacted with me would use to describe me throughout 2016, but it wasn't happening for a variety of reasons, so this year, I've got myself resetting… learn more in the video.

Highlights from Instagram

After my pull-ups post a couple of days ago, a bunch of you ladies were asking how to train to get your first one. Well, this weekend my husband came with me to the gym and helped me record a few clips to share. I'll document anything else here: #girlsgetpullups – share any videos of your own profession with it as well! . On the left: a pull-up negative. Get to the top of the pull-up any way you want – jump, use a high step, have a trainer push you once you're partway there – then lower as slowly as you possibly can. Then repeat a few times until your negative is basically breaking down/not slow at all. . On the right: dead hang shrugs. Now, I'm not sure how hard or easy these may be, but I know for sure that most women struggle with a pull-up due to lack of strength digging out of this hole, which is why banded pull-ups are possible even when a dead hang isn't. Retract your back/lats to shrug here, but don't pull with your arms. . Do these a few times a week and see how you progress. DO NOT USE BANDS DOING THESE EXERCISES. You can choose to do them with a neutral grip if that's available to you in your gym (the grip I had in the previous video but most CF gyms won't have), or a wider grip as I have here. . I'm not a personal trainer, but I've been trained for many years and have been stronger and weaker at pull-ups at various times, and these are things I did early-on to develop the strength to get just one. Now, even if I'm out of pull-up training shape, I don't ever lose them completely. . These are just two of the things I recommend doing to work on training for pull-ups, in addition to strict overhead pressing and handstand holds to increase overall strength in general. . #flipslifts #crossfit #notcrossfit #strictpullups #girlswholift
